Why We Built It

Clearer decisions beat generic advice

SportGene exists because training, recovery, nutrition, and supplementation are still too often shaped by guesswork. We wanted to build something more useful than broad averages or recycled fitness advice.

The goal is not to label athletes or put ceilings on ambition. The goal is to show where your body is likely to respond faster, where you may need more deliberate support, and where standard advice may not fit you especially well.

That is why SportGene combines a simple cheek-swab workflow, a secure digital portal, and a report built around actionable performance themes rather than raw genetic jargon.

The Foundation

What SportGene is built around

The product direction stays deliberately simple: take strong science, present it clearly, and connect it to decisions athletes can actually make.

Action over theory

We focus on insights that matter in practice: power versus endurance bias, recovery patterns, injury-management context, and likely supplement response.

Clarity over complexity

Genetic information is only useful if people can work with it. The report is designed to translate technical data into coaching, training, and recovery language.

Context over hype

Genes influence performance, but they do not replace training, environment, or consistency. SportGene is intended to sharpen decision-making, not oversell certainty.

Our Story

From performance culture to practical genomics

I did not develop SportGene out of abstract curiosity. It came from years spent training in the gym, playing football, and enjoying long, demanding mountain bike rides, followed by the more honest questions that come with age. At 58, the goal is not fantasy. It is to keep performing well for as long as possible, protect what still works well, and slow the rate of decline rather than pretend time is standing still.

That is where the value of genetics became personal for me. I wanted to understand where my real strengths and weak points were, what needed more support, and which opportunities I might otherwise have missed altogether. The aim was not just to confirm assumptions, but to uncover the areas that needed more attention and the areas where adaptation might come more naturally than I expected.

The findings did exactly that. Despite years of heavy resistance training, my genetic profile pointed to a stronger endurance bias than I expected. That mattered because my wife and youngest son both enjoy running and had often encouraged me to join them. Seeing that endurance capacity was likely a genuine strength gave me the confidence to start, push through the early discomfort, and trust that my body could adapt in that direction.

The result was tangible: a ten-minute improvement in my 5K time in less than six months, despite not having run any real distance since school. That experience shaped SportGene from the start. I wanted to build something for people who want practical answers: where to lean in, where to be careful, and how to train with a clearer understanding of the body they actually have.

What Customers Receive

Designed around real use

Every stage of the product has been shaped to remove friction and keep the result useful after the first read.

01

Simple collection

Order online, complete a cheek swab at home, and return the sample to the laboratory using the supplied materials.

02

Structured analysis

SportGene analyses 50 selected markers and organises them into clear performance themes rather than isolated technical fragments.

03

Useful output

Your secure portal gives you ongoing access to the report so the insights can inform training blocks, supplementation, and longer-term planning.
